Good article…since you’re not 100% opposed to sugar, here’s another idea: cupcakes rather than slices of cake. Kids tend to want super-huge slices, but cupcakes are a limited to the size of the cup they’re in.

I understand wanting to teach kids healthy habits, and I don’t think special occasions should be an excuse to go overboard, but kids should be allowed to responsibly indulge as well. Instead of teaching kids about “good” and “bad” food we should focus on teaching them how to have a healthy relationship with food. And if you ask me, there’s nothing more dysfunctional than telling a kid something like cake is wrong. Especially on their birthday.

I’m surprised more countries haven’t banned these. Yes you are supposed to watch your kid and have gates at the top of stairs but reality is, a lot of people don’t, or the gate falls down or something else happens. We have exersaucers to have something the kids can stand upright in and they even have some now that allow the baby to walk a bit but still connected to the base.

I totally agree with you. I have 6 years old girl and 7month old son. I can remember her excitement when I brought my son and the moment that excitement changed to disappointment.Ithiught she is old enough to understand the situation but the age is nothing compared with jealousy. After I found out it is much bigger stress than I have thought, I tried to tell her “i love you” more frequently than ever and how helpful her deed is. Then i found she alsocares the boy just like i do her.
